RIPE Community Mailing Lists
The RIPE community has several public mailing lists, mostly related
to the activities of RIPE Working Groups. The RIPE mailing lists are maintained
by the RIPE NCC.
All current working group mailing lists are open for subscription. Postings
are accepted only from subscribed members, but the lists may only be used
for purposes covered by the charter of each RIPE Working
Group. Unsolicited Bulk E-mail ("spam") is never acceptable. The RIPE
NCC will, at its own discretion, remove addresses likely to lead to misuse
of any list or lists, and may take further action against individuals
and service providers involved.
More information about RIPE community mailing lists is available on the
RIPE community pages.
RIPE NCC Specific Mailing Lists
Various mailing lists cover topics related to the activities of
the RIPE NCC. Some lists are
related to the RIPE NCC membership,
other lists are dedicated to particular projects.
Regional Mailing Lists
To enable continued discussion on IP networking issues in various parts of the RIPE NCC service region, several regional lists have been set up.
Greylisting
The RIPE NCC uses greylisting on its mail servers in order to reduce the
amount of spam recieved.
Greylisting works by sending a temporary SMTP error the first time an
e-mail is received from an unknown sender. Any legitimate mail servers
that receive this error will resend the e-mail successfully. The bulk
mailers used by spammers do not usually try to resend e-mail that is
returned and so the spam is blocked on the first and only attempt at
delivery.
Legitimate e-mails to the RIPE NCC should not be affected by
greylisting. However, if you have any problem sending e-mail, please
contact ops@ripe.net.
